sailors yesterday, sailmakers today

victory is the premise

The idea of becoming a sailmaker was born in the 1970s—partly as a game, partly as a challenge—with an anecdote that perfectly captures the spirit in which it all began.

Passionate about the Snipe class, Beppe bought a new set of sails for his boat, “Mia.” After the first sea trial, however, his enthusiasm quickly faded: the sails didn’t convince him, especially the jib. The regatta was just around the corner, and there was no time to order a new one.

It was at that time that he met Rossana—who would become his wife and a key figure in the sail loft’s history. He challenged her: “I can’t race with this jib. We need to make a new one.”
Rossana replied lightheartedly: “It can’t be that hard to sew a triangle of white fabric…”

They bought ten meters of fabric, thread, and grommets, consulted a few sail design manuals, and set to work. It wasn’t easy, but with that handmade jib, Beppe won the regatta.
And from that moment, we never stopped.
