History

VISTONA

Vistona, once owned by a retired Royal Navy officer and later by a charter company in Cannes, became a training vessel in the early 1970s under the command of Duke Gian Marco Borea d’Olmo. Founder of the Centro Velico Altura and the Venturieri di Chioggia, he sailed aboard Vistona from 1967 until his passing in 1999 at the age of 78.
From that moment on, his children Gianbattista and Ottavia took care of Vistona, which from 2001 to 2004 underwent restoration in Sardinia by master shipwright Marco Bonacina. The Bermudan ketch rig was replaced with the original gaff cutter rig. Vistona sails roughly 3,000 miles per year and has always taken part in the Trophée Bailli de Suffren, the offshore race linking St. Tropez to Malta with a stop in Sardinia at Porto Rotondo.

lA VOCE DELL’ARMATORE

“My father GianMarco, a great sailor and former owner of Vistona, used to explain to me—an ambitious young racer—how the sails of a boat that truly goes to sea must be made. With the Zaolis, there was no need to repeat the lesson. We understood each other instantly, and since then Vistona has been happy with their sails, which are not only strong and long-lasting but also beautifully cut. Vistona now covers mile after mile every year, in every condition, yet she still holds her own against her contemporaries designed specifically for racing, despite having been conceived to face the challenging seas of Scotland and Ireland. Vistona is grateful to Beppe and Rossana for their decisive contribution in giving her a second youth.
